"I need a hairstyle with a little lift on top. Without the 3D image, it would be hard to determine this" -- Kimberly M.

Dare To Try A Short Hairstyle?

Is a short hairstyle for you? If you thrive on change you probably have a short hairstyle already, if not - remember this - your hair will always grow back! Or, become a Stellure member and play it safe. Try a short hairstyle on yourself before the first snip of the scissors.

People perceive women wearing tousled short hairstyles (think Meg Ryan) to be confident and outgoing according to the First Impressions and Hair Impressions study carried out at Yale University by Dr Marianne La France.

Short hairstyles - Things to consider
The most important thing to consider with a short hairstyle is the upkeep. Short hair needs to be trimmed every 4-6 weeks to keep it looking its best.

Take some time to consider which short hairstyle will best suit you. Determine your face shape. Oval or heart-shaped faces suit most short looks, while round and square faces may require longer pieces in back or wisps around the face.
When having your hair cut into a short hairstyle, choose your hairdresser wisely. Be prepared to invest a little more money, as there is no disguising a bad cut.

Before you book your cut, have a consultation with your hairstylist. Most salons offer these for free and they are obligation free. If you have the time have the consultation a few days before your hair cut. This will give you time to think about the advice the stylist gives to you, and for you to appraise whether or not the stylist is on the same wavelength as you.

Make sure your hairstylist understands how to create just the right amount of 'texture' in your short hairstyle. Texture is crucial in most short hairstyles.

A good hair stylist will also spend time showing you how to get this effect with your new hair at home. Ask them for advice on what products to use and what techniques you should use for blow drying at home (what brush, if any, you should use and what settings to have the dryer on). See to our styling techniques page for more detail.
